Celebrations at Dublin Zoo after an African rhinoceros is born.

The newborn black African rhinoceros is the first to be born at Dublin Zoo. The birth is special as it is the first rhino to be born to captive parents. Mother Laura came from Rotterdam Zoo to Dublin Zoo in 1962 and father Ronald came from Bristol Zoo in 1963.

The newborn rhinoceros stands at 18 inches tall and two and a half feet long.

The rhino was subsequently named Ringo following a public competition run by Dublin Zoo in conjunction with the Evening Herald newspaper.
