Members of the public get to see inside the new United States Embassy building in Ballsbridge, Dublin.
The United States Embassy building in Ballsbridge, Dublin formally opened on 23 May 1964. The modern, circular, building is designed by American architect John M Johansen, in consultation with Irish architect, Michael Scott. The building houses 13 American and 46 Irish members of staff.
On the first day alone 5,000 people visit the unusual and innovative structure. There is a long queue outside the embassy. Once admitted visitors file through the reception area in the rotunda which is encircled by the three storeys housing the consulate and embassy offices.
