Irish born citizens among the names on a travelling monument remembering those on the American side who died in the Vietnam War.
A wall that is a half sized replica of the Vietnam War Memorial Wall in Washington is on show at Dublin Castle. The memorial bears the names of 58,214 men and women who died on the American side in the Vietnam War.
Only the scale differentiates this half size replica from the original memorial in Washington.
Among the names on the wall are fourteen Irish born citizens. Dublin Lord Mayor Joe Doyle and Minister for Defence Michael Smith laid a wreath at the wall during a ceremony.
Among the names is Irish man Edward Michael Howell who was killed on St Patrick's Day in 1967. His wife Brigid Howell from Clondalkin was in attendance at the ceremony at Dublin Castle. She explains how she returned to Ireland from America following the death of her husband who was laid to rest at Glasnevin Cemetery. Linda Howell the couple's daughter was also in attendance to pay tribute to the father she never knew.
The replica wall has already been on display at Collins Barracks in Cork and will travel on to Queen's University in Belfast, Adare Manor in Limerick and finally to the National University of Ireland Galway.
