Premium prices sought but few buyers at the Kilrush horse and pony fair in Clare.
The traditional Kilrush horse fairs are held annually on 25 March, the first Thursday in June, 10 October and 23 November. Established in the late 19th century, the charter under which they were originally held, dates back to 1628.
The first Kilrush horse and pony fair of the year takes place on the main street in County Clare.
At a time when petrol is becoming increasingly expensive the sight of a street filled with horses was reminiscent of the days before motoring became a feature of life.
Despite numerous buyers and sellers, high prices see few deals being made.
