Great support for both teams in the girls All Ireland Volleyball Final.

The Cadet All Ireland Volleyball Final is between the under 16 teams of Fethard and Eccles Street face each other. In the third set it is Fethard who lead having won the first two sets 15-12 and 15-13. The final takes place in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the community centre in Ballyphehane, Cork.

Each volleyball team has six players and a set is won when one side leads by at least two clear points within a minimum score of 15. If the score reaches 14-14, players continue until it reaches 16-14 or 17-15 or 18-16 and so on.

The court is 59 feet long by 29 feet six inches wide and it's free of any obstruction to a height of 23 feet.

The same size court is used by both men and women. The net for the women's game is seven feet four inches at the centre.

The object of the game is to hit the ball back and forth across the net preventing it from touching the floor within the team's own court.

The ball can be touched three times by a team before it must be sent across the net.

A match is played to the best of five sets depending on the decision of the competition committee or by agreement between the teams. All international matches are played to the best of five sets.

Volleyball has its origins in the USA in 1895 by William G Morgan. It was originally called Mintonette.
