Bob Geldof and Marian Keyes receive honorary doctorates at the University of Limerick

The University of Limerick awarded honorary doctorates to musician, humanitarian and activist Bob Geldof and best selling writer Marian Keyes. The awards were presented as part of the first Winter Conferring Ceremony which will see over 1700 University of Limerick students graduate.

The University of Limerick awards honorary doctorates to individuals who have shown outstanding achievement nationally and internationally.

Limerick born author Marian Keyes is incredibly honoured to receive such an accolade. Bob Geldof and Marian Keyes were joined by their families at the University of Limerick concert hall for the conferral ceremony. Mary Keyes attributes Marian's honesty to her success as a writer. Her husband, Tony Baines, describes the conferral as a huge tribute to the writer.

Bob Geldof received his doctorate for his activism and campaigning against poverty and inequality. His wife Jeanne Marine says that he has a passion for speaking out.
