ESB unions and management in dispute over transfer of employees to Poolbeg power station.

The Ringsend station was taken out of the national grid in 1982 and is being wound down. It continues to be fully staffed around the clock, while vacancies exist at the nearby Poolbeg plant.

On RTÉ radio Jimmy Tinkler of the ATGWU (Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union) spoke about how some aspects of the ESB plans to reduce its workforce are non-negotiable which means that

The right of trade unions to negotiate for their members is under threat.

In response to this ESB chief executive PJ Moriarty has said that for the past two years managers have made all staff aware of future changes,

They must close power stations for which there is no work.
