Pat Sweeney (c1938-2011) was a broadcaster and journalist.
Born in Kilkenny, he worked as a journalist with the Kilkenny People and the Irish Independent. He joined RTÉ as a reporter in 1968, covering events in Northern Ireland at the beginning of the Troubles and the craftsmen’s strike of 1969.
He won a Jacob’s award for industrial journalism in 1970, and was RTÉ’s industrial correspondent throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He left RTÉ in 1990 and was communications officer for the employer’s group IBEC for several years.
