Need to address racial discrimination when it comes to the employment of migrant workers in Ireland.
As an employer Dublin Bus is coping with ethnic diversity with 47 different nationalities represented in its workforce.
Overall, nine per cent are non-Irish.
Dublin Bus is marking Anti-Racist Workplace Week with a charity GAA football match involving 19 different nationalities.
Not all workplaces are so inclusive and there have been complaints of exploitation in agricultural employment. Organisations representing migrant workers point out that as employers control work visas, some abuse their position to reduce pay and benefits. In some cases, if a migrant worker gets sick or becomes pregnant, they can be in danger of losing their job.
The Equality Authority says that racial discrimination, excluding members of the Traveller community, now accounts for one third of cases. Niall Crowley of the Equality Authority is calling for more leadership in creating intercultural workplaces which are free from racism.
