20 pairs of legs push 20 pairs of pedals to propel an unusual machine from Ennis to Dublin and back.

This unusual mode of travel is being taken to raise money to furnish a hostel for the Clare Mental Health Association.

The pedal pushers were welcomed at the Mansion House by the Lord Mayor of Dublin Michael Keating.

The cycling machine was navigated by former hurler John Dunne who also came up with the idea for the charity pedal push. The machine travels at an average of 12 miles an hour depending on the strength of those doing the pedaling. The team discovered it could actually reach 40 miles an hour on a downhill stretch. All those taking part have trained for the trip for three months and will set off back to Clare tomorrow.
