Competitors take on the weirs in a race down the river Liffey in canoes and kayaks.

The Liffey Descent began in 1959 and every year since then canoeists and kayakers negotiate the waters of the River Liffey.

The event has almost 400 people taking part, with teams from Ireland and overseas. Competitors travel the route along the River Liffey from Straffan in County Kildare to Islandbridge in Dublin.
