I think it's really because they're such a general purpose pony and they're suitable for adults or children.
Connemara ponies grow to a very good size and are strong, robust and agile.
They're capable of hunting, jumping or even doing farm work so that they really are a general purpose pony.
The ponies are adaptable to any climate from as far south as Australia to the coldest parts of Canada. There are plans this year to send some of the ponies for breeding purposes to Lesotho in southern Africa.
