Couple tie the knot in what is believed to be the first traditional pub wedding in Ireland.

Under laws introduced in 2007, civil marriages no longer have to take place in a registry office. Several weddings have already taken place in hotels and restaurants. The Laurels Pub in Killarney, County Kerry is the scene for what is believed to be Ireland’s first ever traditional pub wedding.

For bride and groom Malgorzata (Gosia) Klinaszewska from Poland and Mervin McHugh from County Mayo, their local pub was the obvious venue for their big day as,

The pub is a relaxed atmosphere.

The couple thought it would be fun to have the wedding ceremony in the pub and then continue on celebrating.

Both guest and locals think the pub wedding is a great idea,

Just the fun of the day and that’s it.

The civil ceremony is held in The Laurels restaurant before the couple are announced to the regulars in the pub proper.

The Laurels pub management hope this wedding ceremony is the first of many to come.
