A record number of women are among the new Garda Síochána trainees at Templemore.
There were 22 women among the 109 new recruits to the Irish police force. This will bring the strength of the Garda Síochána to over 9,200. The new recruits will undergo training at Templemore in County Tipperary.
Chief Superintendent Richard O'Shea says that with an increase in Garda numbers it is only reasonable that the number of women recruits would also be raised. The basic training for men and women is the same.
