A June bank holiday of mixed weather and fortunes across Ireland.

In many places across the country, strong wind and rain keep people at home on the morning of the June bank holiday Monday. In Bray, County Wicklow the normally buzzing seaside town is deserted. The west of the country is even worse, with many events cancelled due to bad weather.

There is a different story in County Kildare where the sun is shining. More than 2,100 people attend the Kill Horse Show to watch Irish, British and International riders competing for the £3,000 prize in the Bord Bainne International Competition. Sharing the prize money are Eddie Macken on Kerrygold and Paul Darragh riding Olympic Light. Also participating is Harvey Smith from England.

Meanwhile in Bishopstown, County Cork a driving lesson takes a wrong turn. Two women travelling in a Ford car accidentally accelerate through a plate glass window in the Bishopstown Shopping Centre. The vehicle comes to a halt in the fashion department of Dunnes Stores. Both women escape unharmed.
