Devices to be fitted on Dublin buses to prevent anti-social behaviour and keep crews and passengers safe.
CIÉ management, trade unions and Gardaí have joined forces determined to put an end to late night hooliganism and violence on Dublin bus services.
They are concerned that vandalism is now costing CIÉ £300,000 a year in repair bills and that assaults on bus crews doubled last year.
Part of the plan involves fitting buses with a gadget called a black box. The device enables bus crews to raise an alarm and signal their location within seconds. This will be responded to by prompt support from the Gardaí. The first units have already been installed on some buses and the entire fleet of 900 will have them by the end of next year.
