Boost for traders as shoppers search for value in Dublin department store sales.

The annual post-Christmas and new year sales are under way around the country and business is booming. Despite a worldwide recession, there is no evidence of a lack of cash on the shopping streets of Dublin.

City streets packed to overflowing for the post Christmas sales.

Business in the lead up to Christmas had not broken any records and traders were nervous over how the sales would go. They need not have worried as thousands of shoppers turned out eager to find a bargain.

The streets are packed, the stores are busy and they say takings are up on this time last year.

Early indications from the Switzer Group show that business is up by approximately 20 per cent on the same period last year. Managing director of the Switzer Group, George McCullough says that people have plenty of money and been saving up for the sales where there is good value available.
