Sunbeds, hair, makeup and the right outfit all part of the preparation for a debs night.

Some debutants are prepared to spend exorbitant amounts of money, time and energy getting everything perfect for the night of their debs ball.

The phenomenon of the debs or grad ball is spreading at a fierce rate.

One young debutante is looking forward to her night out and is preparing by getting a tan.

Sharon who was at a debs last week and is attending another one tonight describes her beauty regime which includes sunbed sessions and professional makeup. At a cost of about £25, Sharon believes it is well worth it.

When you go out, you really want to feel your best.

Hairdressing and tanning salons are now offering special rates for debs and according to one salon worker the demand has been great.

It's a very special occasion for young girls and boys.

Other services included slendertone, false nails, makeup and waxing. Another salon worker Sandra welcomes the business but says that as a parent it is a lot of pressure and total nonsense.

At the Gresham Hotel in Dublin, the debutants arrive with their dates for a night of glamour in all their finery. Many of those attending have been to a debs before but for some, it is their first time. Some of the couples have even matched their outfits.

Sharon, who we met earlier at the salon, is really looking forward to the night.

It's going to be a good night.

The turkey and ham dinner is followed by a few drinks and lots of dancing into the early hours.
