A new safety measure makes roll bars on tractors compulsory.

The new measure comes into effect on 1 September 1977 and will make it an offence to drive a tractor in a public place without a safety frame fitted. Failure to do so will result in heavy penalties. The introduction of safety cabs on tractors will protect the driver should the tractor overturn.

A major cause of fatalities tractors on farms happen when the driver gets trapped under the tractor and crushed by the weight of the machine. A safety cab can prevent such deaths occurring.
