A dazzling smile contest and a Lord Mayor in the dentist's chair for Dental Health Week in Limerick.

The focus for Dental Health Week is to bring home to parents and guardians that dental decay is not inevitable and that proper care is essential from childhood.

The event was supported by Lord Mayor of Limerick, Jack Danagher, who urged parents to take responsibility for their children's dental hygiene. Promoting the cause, Mayor Danagher has his teeth examined while sitting in a dental chair in a shop window. Members of the public peer in the window as the examination takes place.

Limerick Dental Health Week takes place from 28 September until 3 October.
