Brian Cowen looks like winning seat in Laois Offaly to become the youngest member of the Dáil.

Following the death of TD Bernard Cowen his son Brian at the age of 24 stood as the Fianna Fáil candidate in a by-election. The election for the Laois Offaly seat took place on the same day as the European Parliament elections.

Early tallies in the count indicate that Brian Cowen will be elected. He believes that the by-election result is an indication to the Fine Gael government that the electorate is not happy and change will need to happen.

Brian Cowen is competing for the seat against Fine Gael candidate Padraig Horan who is still hoping he can win the election.
