De Dannan with Eleanor Shanley on lead vocals perform 'Mandela'.
The Irish music group De Dannan took their name from the Tuatha Dé Dannan a supernatural tribe of Irish mythology. Formed in Galway in 1975 the group became famous for their distinctive style of folk music. Band members came and went over the years, although founders Frankie Gavin and Alec Finn remained.
Recently returned from a tour in the United States, De Dannan perform ‘Mandela’ with their new lineup, which includes Eleanor Shanley on vocals. The other band members performing here are Frankie Gavin (traditional flute), Alec Finn (guitar), and Colm Murphy (bodhrán), Aidan Coffey (accordion), and Catherine Lavelle (cello). They are also accompanied by the Kenny Live house band.
This episode of ‘Kenny Live’ was broadcast on 29 April 1989. The presenter is Pat Kenny.
