Independent film-maker and Oscar nominee John Sayles is making his latest work 'The Secret of Roan Inish' in Rossbeg, County Donegal.
The film, based on the novel 'Secret of the Ron Mor Skerry' by Rosalie K Fry, is set in the west of Ireland and is based on the Irish and Orcadian folklores of Selkies, mythological creatures which are part human and part seal.
Director John Sayles outlines the reasons for choosing Rossbeg as the location, relying on local experts and tradesmen to assist with the production. Thatcher John Masters explains how thatching was used to soundproof a studio. The thatching was done in authentic Donegal style.
The film stars 15-year-old Richard Sheridan alongside Mick Lally, Eileen Colgan, John Lynch and 10-year-old Belfast girl Jennifer Courtney.
