Limerick college looks to attract more students from Europe to study courses in development and childcare.

Forging stronger educational links between Ireland and Norway is part of a campaign underway at the Mary Immaculate College in Limerick. The Norwegian Ambassador Truls Hanevold visited the college as Limerick remembers the emigrants of the Hannah Parr ship which was forced to dock in the city 140 years ago on its way from Norway to Canada.

The visit is part of a campaign by the college to attract more European students to its courses in development and childcare. Professor Peadar Cremin, President of Mary Immaculate College, outlines plans for expansion at the college with new buildings to accommodate the growing number of students.

One Norwegian student studying at the college is Hanne Mari Halvorsen, who is studying Early Childhood Care in Education.

While the college forges new educational and business links, the annual Riverfest is taking place in Limerick and features events such as The Biggest Barbeque in the World, as well as concerts from Sharon Shannon and Richie Buckley amongst others.
