Music and fun are all part of the Galway Oyster festival
Lord Mayor of Galway Claude Toft launches the proceedings by taking the first oyster. Despite the overcast weather there is a good turnout to get the festival under way. Large amounts of oysters are prepared for consumption.Among those enjoying the fresh sea food are writer Hugh Leonard and broadcaster to Gay Byrne.
Dan the Street Singer is on hand to give a rendition of 'I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen'.
