Racegoers turned out in their thousands for what was a very successful inaugural Sunday meeting. The event included a kiddies corner, live music, and a best dressed lady competition.

Negotiations for Sunday racing have been going on since as far back as 1969 and it has finally been given a six meeting trial. The future depends on its viability and success, as well as trade union negotiations.

Plans for future meetings include Europe's richest race in September. Mary Fanning spoke to some of the punters who seemed to be enjoying themselves with one commenting

It’s wonderful now I’ve had a glass of champagne.
