Dr Tiede Herrema tells RTÉ News about his ordeal and the present giving to him by one of the kidnappers.
Following the kidnapping of Dutch industrialist Tiede Herrema by the IRA on 3 October 1975, a massive security campaign was launched to find him.
Eventually he was located in a house in Monasterevin, Co. Kildare with his captors Eddie Gallagher and Marion Coyle. The army and gardaí laid siege to the house, but Herrema was not released until 7 November.
Dr Tiede Herrema feels he was treated reasonably by his captors. Eddie Gallagher handed him a bullet and returned his pocket knife to him at the end of the siege.
