Following the kidnapping of Dutch industrialist Tiede Herrema by the IRA on 3 October 1975, a massive security campaign was launched to find him.

Eventually he was located in a house in Monasterevin, Co. Kildare with his captors Eddie Gallagher and Marion Coyle. The army and gardaí laid siege to the house, but Herrema was not released until 7 November.

This RTÉ News interview with Herrema was shown the following day. Herrema tells reporter Mícheál Ó Briain about his ordeal. He feels he was treated reasonably by his captors. Eddie Gallagher handed him a bullet and returned his pocket knife to him at the end of the siege.
