A Today Tonight programme from 1987 takes a look at Denmark and how it has prospered. This clip shows an insight into the world of Lego, the internationally successful toy and business.
From small beginnings in a carpenter’s workshop, Lego has gone on to become one of the most popular toys in the western world.
According to the report, which was published in 1987, 75% of children in the western world now play with Lego. In addition Lego Land is now one of Denmark's major tourist attractions with over 1 million visitors a year. The town where Lego was invented was once described as a
God-forsaken railway stop where nothing could thrive. Lego did and now employs 3,000 people in Denmark alone.
The town of Billund isn't made of Lego, but Lego certainly made the town of Billund.
This 'Today Tonight' report by Gary Agnew was broadcast on 31 January 1987.
