A number of homes and businesses were evacuated in Co Fermanagh this morning following a report of a suspicious object.

Main Street in Derrylin was also closed because of the incident.

Chief Inspector Graham Dodds said: "A number of homes and businesses have been evacuated. We regret the disruption this will cause to residents, however, we are working to resolve this as soon as possible."

Motorists were advised to avoid the area.

The security alert has now ended and all diversions have been removed.

Chief Inspector Dodds said: "Following the discovery of a suspicious object at Main Street, Derrylin, a number of roads were closed as police and ATO personnel examined it.

"A controlled explosion was carried out and the object has been declared as nothing untoward. All roads have now re-opened and I would like to thank the local community for their patience as we worked to keep everyone safe."
