Winery malfunction sees wine flow from taps in Italian town

A malfunction at a winery in an Italian town last Wednesday saw red wine seeping into water pipes, and from their flowing straight out of taps in houses in the area.

For three hours, the residents of Castelvetro were able to enjoy their wine straight from the tap.

About 1,000 litres of red wine leaked from Cantina Settecani winery, according to local reports.

The malfunction was caused by a faulty valve in the washing circuit within the bottling line of the winery, local media said. The incident affected about 20 homes in the town.

"Yesterday we really laughed. We all needed to laugh. A day to remember. Wine is always the answer", said deputy major Georgia Mezzacqui, who filmed the video.

The town is located in the Emilia-Romagna region, one of the worse-affected areas affected amid the coronavirus outbreak.
