Gardaí are investigating after a nine-year-old boy was left seriously injured following a road collision in Co Offaly this afternoon.

The boy, who was cycling at the time, was injured after being struck by a car in the Pullagh area at around 2pm.

The child was treated at the scene and then airlifted to Our Ladies Children's Hospital in Crumlin, but has since been transferred to Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

Gardaí have said the boy’s condition is described as serious.

The driver of the car was not injured in the incident.

The scene is being examined and gardaí are investigating.
