A 52-year-old man has been charged after 120kg of Benzocaine was found during a search of his car.
Gardaí from the Louth road policing unit stopped a Northern Ireland-registered car on the M1 at Whiterath after the driver was spotted driving in an erratic manner on Wednesday.
Gardaí stopped the car and the driver was arrested and taken to Dundalk Garda Station.
During a search of the car 120kg of Benzocaine, worth around €50,000, was found in plastic containers.
Benzocaine is not a controlled drug but is used as a mixing for cutting agent for cocaine.

The man appeared in court on Friday in relation to traffic offences and was rearrested afterwards and questioned at Dundalk Garda Station before being charged in relation to the possession of Benzocaine.
