Vodafone Ireland has said that it has identified the root cause of an outage on its network.
It said it has fixed the issue, which affected a large number of its customers this afternoon.
It says customers should start to see services return this evening.
The problem seemed to affect both mobile and fixed line services in pockets all over the country.
The issue also affected users in the UK, Spain, Italy and Greece.
According to DownDetector, which allows users to raise outage problems, the fault started to appear around 2pm this afternoon.
