The Director of Public Prosecutions has not appealed the leniency of the two-and-a-half-year sentence given to former sports journalist, Tom Humphries, for grooming and sexually abusing a teenage girl.
Humphries was sentenced last month after pleading guilty to the charges at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
The court heard he exchanged more than 16,000 text messages with the girl over a three-month period in early 2011.
He pleaded guilty to four counts of inviting a child to participate in a sexually explicit, obscene or indecent act between January 2010 and March 2011.
He also pleaded guilty to two counts of defilement of the child at a place in Dublin between December 2010 and February 2011.
These offences took place when the girl was aged 16 and Humphries was 47.
The charges were sample counts out of a much larger number and the court heard Humphries made contact with the girl through volunteer work with junior GAA sports teams.
Judge Karen O'Connor imposed a sentence of two-and-a-half years in total on 24 October.
There was much criticism of the sentence, including from the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre.
The DPP had 28 days to lodge an appeal, but had not done so by close of business yesterday.
