An Irishman has swum the English Channel to raise money for the Irish Deaf Society.

Wesley Nolan, who is originally from Dublin but has been living in London for a number of years, swam the 21 miles from Dover, England to Cap Gris Nez in France.

Mr Nolan, who is deaf, said that he started planning his charity swim two years ago and dedicated weekends and evening training for the event.

He said: "Swimming the English Channel was a dream before but now I have turned it into a real goal."
