A 62-year-old former caretaker of a midlands GAA ground has appeared in court in Longford charged with 144 sexual offences against children, between 2000 and 2013.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested at 8.15am and charged with sexual assault, exploitation of children at a GAA ground, and possession and production of child abuse images at another address.
The court was told there are four alleged victims involved in the cases, one of whom is now over the age of 18.
The man faces ten charges that he knowingly produced child pornography by recording movies from webcams and copying them to a hard-drive for the purpose of distribution, publication, exportation, sale or show under Section 51 of the Child Traffic and Pornography Act 1998.
While the majority of the charges against the man relate to the period of 2000 and 2008, most of the child pornography charges relate to 2013 when the garda investigation began.
The man has been released on bail with conditions set including surrendering all his travel documents.
He will appear again in court on 12 September.
Judge Seamus Hughes made an order prohibiting the publication of the accused's name or the names of the alleged victims in the case.
