Gardaí sub-aqua divers in Monaghan searching for the remains of convicted rapist James Nolan have discovered two leg bones in a lake near Carrickmacross.
Gardaí found two femur bones weighed down in searches at Lough na Glack.
Gardaí renewed their searches in the lake after the discovery of James Nolan's torso in Finglas earlier this year.
DNA testing will be carried out to confirm the identity of the bones.
The search was part of an investigation into the death of a man whose dismembered arm was found on a beach in Dublin six years ago.
DNA testing identified the arm found on Dollymount Strand in Dublin February 2011 as that of James Nolan.
It is understood that as part of the same investigation a torso was uncovered in a search at Tolka Valley Park in Finglas, Dublin last month.
Nolan, 46, who was originally from Finglas, had served jail sentences for rape and burglary.
He was last seen alive in November 2010.
Searches at the site near Carrickmacross have been going on since Tuesday.
The local Coroner and the State Pathologist have been notified of the find.
