A post-mortem examination is due to take place on the body of a man in his 50s who was stabbed in a laneway in Limerick city centre yesterday afternoon.
He was brought to hospital at around 2pm yesterday after an incident in Roches Row, between Thomas Street and Roches Street.
Gardaí are seeking help from people who may have seen or heard anything in the area leading up to the incident.
A senior garda spokesperson said the laneway is located beside a busy car park with cars regularly exiting near the spot where the assault happened, and people may have seen what happened.
A man also aged in his 50s was arrested at the scene yesterday and is still being held at Roxboro Garda Station.
A decision will be made later today about whether he will face charges in court or be released.
