Ireland is set to experience a mini heatwave this week with temperatures forecast to reach the mid-20s.

While Monday and Tuesday will be mixed with some patchy rain and cloud, Met Éireann is predicting that the mercury will climb on Wednesday and Thursday.

There will be "some good sunny periods in many areas" on Wednesday and temperatures will be in the high-teens to low-20s, according to Met Éireann.

And Thursday is set to be the best day of the week with temperatures expected to be in the low to mid 20s.

Temperatures will remain high on Friday but Met Éireann has warned of a risk of rain in western and southwestern parts.

By the weekend, the weather is due to change.

"The weekend is uncertain, but the indications are for unsettled weather with some rainfall and possibly windy at times also," according to Met Éireann's website.
