A man shot in a feud-related attack in Dublin this afternoon is in a critical condition in hospital.

The victim, who is in his 20s and is known to gardaí, was wearing a bullet-proof vest.

He was treated by a nurse at the scene, after being shot in the neck and upper body.

Gardaí say it is fortunate other people were not shot during the attack.

The scene of shooting, at a Topaz filling station beside a hotel on the Clonshaugh Road near Dublin Airport, remains sealed off this evening.

The victim drove his car into the station at about 1.30pm, before black Lexus car with an 08-D registration pulled up beside him.

A gunman then fired several shots at him through the window.

Gardaí say up to 70 people were at the scene at the time and have appealed to witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward.

Superintendent Finbar Murphy said what makes the attack more outrageous is that bullets were flying in all directions and an innocent person could have been killed.

He appealed for people with dash cams or anyone who saw anything to contact Ballymun Garda Station on 01-6664400

Gardai believe the shooting is the latest attack in an ongoing feud between the Hutch and Kinahan crime gangs, which has so far cost ten lives.

The victim, who is from Dublin's north inner city, was associated with the Kinahan gang .

However, he fell out with them following the murder of his close friend Gary Hutch, the first victim of the ongoing feud, in Spain in 2015.

He is well known to gardaí and had been warned his life was in danger.

He spends time out of the country and recently arrived back at Dublin Airport, walked out to a car, put on a bullet proof vest and drove away

Armed support units have mounted a number of surveillance operations to protect him but he has consistently refused to cooperate with gardaí.
