A woman in her 70s has died following a two-car collision in Louth last night.

The crash happened at Clonmore, Togher just before 11.30pm.

The woman, named as Margaret Healy from Annagassan, was a passenger in one of the cars and was pronounced dead at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda a short time later.

The car she was in was driven by a woman in her 60s who along with the two occupants of the second car - a 29-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man - were also taken to hospital.

Their injuries are not life-threatening.

The road remains closed and diversions are in place to allow for forensic examinations. 

Gardaí have asked anyone who travelled the road between 11pm and 11.30pm to contact them at Drogheda Garda Station, any Garda station or on the garda confidential phone line.
