An Post has issued four stamps celebrating four figures from the world of computer games.

The new stamps feature the images of Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, PacMan and Space Invaders.

Mario is the biggest selling game series of all time, having first appeared in the arcade game Donkey Kong.

Since that first appearance, the character has appeared in more than 200 games.

Sonic the Hedgehog, created as a rival to Mario, first appeared in an eponymous game in 1991.

PacMan first appeared in 1980 and went on to become a favourite in both arcade and PC format.

Space Invaders was developed by Tomohiro Nishikado in 1978.

The game was manufactured and sold by Taito in Japan.

The four stamps were designed by Dublin-based design studio Zinc Design Consultants.
