Elected to the Dáil on his first attempt in 2007, Mr Byrne lost his seat in 2011 and was subsequently elected to the Seanad’s Administrative Panel. Runner-up in the Meath East by-election of 2013, he has served as a member of the Oireachtas Public Finance Committee.
