Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has said his message to voters in the final days of the general election campaign is to back their instincts and vote in favour of the change of government that they have been demanding.

Speaking this afternoon in south Dublin, Mr Martin firmly ruled out the idea of a rotating taoiseach in the next government, as suggested by his former Dáil colleague Conor Lenihan.

Mr Martin said it was not a consideration when he was asked on the campaign trail if he would consider supporting the idea of a rotating taoiseach for the sake of ensuring a centre-left government rather than a far-left government led by Sinn Féin.

Mr Martin said he was aware that Mr Lenihan had come to the campaign late, adding that he would not see the idea of a rotating taoiseach as a practical possibility.

He said there would not be a far-left government and, based on the reaction he was getting, he believed there would be a lot of politicians elected from "the centre ground".
