A man who is believed to have stabbed a police office in the Paris suburbs before taking his wife and son hostage has been shot.
A woman's body has also been found at the scene. The child has been found safe.
The attacker stabbed the officer repeatedly outside the property as he returned home around 9pm local time, sources said.
He then took the officer's wife and son hostage in their home in Magnanville, northwest of the French capital.
Negotiations were carried out at the scene, with a spokesman saying police were carrying out "an evaluation ... to confirm if the individual has hostages with him."
Detonations were then heard as a raid was carried out on the house.
Thousands of Irish football fans are in Paris tonight following the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2016 clash with Sweden.
