A Washington police department spokeswoman has said that there was no evidence of a shooter at the Washington Navy Yard, after reports of an active shooter there.
The spokeswoman said the police investigation was concluded and subsequent inquiries would be done by Navy authorities.
At 12.30pm Irish time, local media said that shots were reportedly fired at the scene, but authorities said that following a sweep of the area, nothing was found.
The Navy Yard was put on lockdown during the incident.

The reports came amid heightened security concerns ahead of the US Independence Day holiday weekend.
The Navy Yard, a military installation in the nation's capital, is the site of a shooting in which a gunman killed 12 people almost two years ago.
Aaron Alexis, a 34-year-old government technology contractor at the Navy Yard, went to the facility on 16 September 2013 and opened fire.
The FBI said Alexis believed electromagnetic waves had been controlling him for months before the shooting.
More than eight blocks of nearby roads were shutdown as authorities respond to the scene, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
