Father Alphonsus Cullinan is being ordained as Bishop of Waterford and Lismore this afternoon.

He will be the 41st bishop of the Diocese.

Father Cullinan, a former primary school teacher, is a priest if the Diocese of Limerick.

Over 800 people, including 29 bishops, are expected to attend the event in the Cathedral of the most Holy Trinity in Waterford city at 3pm this afternoon.

Representatives of the President, the Taoiseach and the Pope are expected to attend the event. 

Bishop William Lee will be the ordaining Bishop.
