Falmouth Coastguard in Cornwall has confirmed that one of the ships involved in a collision in the Bay of Biscay has sunk.

All seven crew of the 'Florece' cargo vessel took to life rafts and were rescued by the 'Ocean Titan', which is taking them to Portugal.

The crew are a mixture of Russian, Polish and Ukrainian nationals. They did not require any medical assistance.

The second vessel involved in the collision - which occurred at 3.30am - is a chemical tanker. It sustained no damage in the accident, which happened 240m south-southwest of Land's End.

The crew have checked her over and determined that there are no leaks, but they will head for port for a complete check to be safe.
