Three people have died in separate road accidents in counties Kerry, Limerick and Cavan.

A woman has died, her husband has been seriously injured and two other people have been taken to hospital after a collission involving a car and a van at Fossa outside Killarney, Co Kerry.

The dead woman, her husband and another woman were in a car travelling from Killarney towards Kilorglan when it collided with a van driven by another man at the gap of Dungloe cross at around 7.30pm.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The other three were taken to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee.

The woman's husband is being described as in a serious condition. His passenger and the driver of the van have injuries which are described as not life-threatening.

The Killarney to Kilorglan road remains closed while Garda road crash investigators conduct an examination at the scene.

Gardaí in Killarney are appealing for witnesses.

A 50-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle at Mountplummer, Broadford, Co Limerick.

The accident happened on the Ashford to Broadford road at about 8pm last night.

The collision involved a 4x4 and a pedestrian.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She was removed to Limerick Regional Hospital, where a post mortem examination will take place today.

The road has since reopened.

Witnesses to this collision are asked to contact gardaí at Newcastle West on 069-20650.

Elsewhere, a 22-year-old died in a road accident in Co Cavan.

The crash happened sometime between 1.30am and 9.30am yesterday, around 5km outside Dowra on the Dowra to Glangevlin Road.

The victim was taken to Our Lady's Hospital in Navan where a post mortem is expected to take place today.
