Four German tourists have been rescued after their car became stuck in a crocodile-infested river in Kakadu National Park in Australia.
Police said the group ignored warning signs and tried to cross Magela Creek on the Oenpelli Road on Monday morning.
The crossing is about 100 metres wide and was under around one metre of water at the time.
Supt Debbie Smith said the group tried to drive through the crossing at 80km/h and the engine stopped about halfway across.
Officers managed to rescue the group about 30 minutes later.
'Some witnesses nearby had warned them not to enter the water because they are croc-infested and the people have climbed onto the roof of their vehicle awaiting rescue,' she said.
'Fortunately nobody was injured, but it certainly put everybody's lives in a bit of danger in that regard - unnecessarily - and as well caused quite a bit of water damage to the inside of the police vehicle.'
Heavy rain fell around Kakadu National Park on Monday morning and police say it is lucky the car was not washed off the crossing.
